I found loads of drivers for this device on, but I don't want to try maybe hundreds of drivers with just slightly different version numbers. Oh, by the way, thanks for even attempting to help with this! Many others tried, and are trying.

I KNOW the port works, because it works in Windows 7 when I boot into that partition. I still think it's a driver issue, despite the fact that device manager says all is well. Device manager says all is well, but I uninstalled the other three devices with the same IRQ to see if it helped. Most of the time I get an exclamation point on the connection icon indicating that there's a bad connection. Adapter seen in networking section of XP. What does Device Mangler say? Possibly an IRQ conflict? I'm looking at the diagnostics pic you posted. Can you talk a little more about how you're not getting a connection? Are the lights on the port lighting up when plugged in (if there are lights)? You're seeing the adapter in the Networking section of XP? Just not getting DHCP addy? Set IP manually just for grins? Okay, well with that out of the way then. If you don't like the fact that I'm attempting to use XP on this laptop, don't stop here to tell me so. Please don't ask for a reason why I want to use Windows XP on this laptop or post derisive comments. Password, power, boot order are about all. One other note: the BIOS setup screens provide almost no settings that can be altered by the user. Got any ideas? There are a number of people interested in the solution to this problem. It took me countless hours to find XP drivers for the other devices, but this Realtek NIC took as much troubleshooting time as all the others combined (even with help!) and it still won't work. This is the ONLY hardware device that won't work in XP on this laptop, but WILL work when I boot into windows 7. I've tried many Realtek driver versions to no avail so I just let it default back to the latest XP drivers 5.810.1218.2012. Here is a screenshot from a Realtek diagnostic: Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter I can't get a wired connection through the Realtek adapter in XP even though I installed the proper driver from Realtek (driver version is 5.810.1218.2012).
